2. Maintenance
A common misconception is that corrosion or rust does not affect stainless steel. As a rule, stainless steel hardware and fittings are used to resist corrosion and rust, particularly in coastal areas.
Like any outdoor aluminium and stainless steel product, maintaining a cleaning schedule is essential for maximum resistance to corrosion and rust.
General Cleaning
Wipe over the shutters using a non-abrasive cloth or sponge with warm soapy water. A garden hose can be used by applying the same principles.
Concentrate on the areas where the stainless steel hardware is attached to the shutter.
Remove any salt residue, tannin stains caused by trees and any other marks created.
On completion of the cleaning process, spray a light film of silicone lubricant on any operational hardware such as the tracking system. Ensure these areas are fully dry prior to this application.
In non-coastal areas, we recommend cleaning aluminium shutters routinely every six months.

Warranty Limitations
Depending on the panel’s height, midrails may be required for structural integrity.
Measure from the bottom of the opening to the mid-point of where you would like the midrail to sit.
The factory may standardly alter the midrail height to balance the top and bottom rail heights (within + or – one blade size).
Select “Critical Midrail” in Special Instructions to request that the midrail height is not adjusted.
An alternative option is “Critical Mid rail + or – 20mm”. This option will allow the factory to adjust the mid rail automatically (within 20mm +/-) to ensure the top and bottom rails are within workable limits. Selecting a critical midrail position allowing for a 20mm +/- adjustment means the factory will not need to ask for approval from you, and you will not need to request a drawing, speeding up the order process.

Beaded T-post (A4026)
How to Measure
Measure from the left side of the opening to where the centre of the T-post would sit.
If there are multiple T-posts, always work from the left-hand side of the opening to the centre of the T-post.
Deductions
The thickness of the T-post is deducted from the overall width to determine the size of each panel. This measurement is 19mm per T-post.
Factory Drawing
If the factory provides a drawing of your order check the configuration where the T Post sits, indicated by a red dotted line, and measurements are correct.
13. Alternative Corner Post Option
When installing shutters in a corner window, a corner post is typically used.
Weatherwell Standard has no Corner Post to suit this opening style; however, we have devised an alternative solution.
Butting up L frames together and adding an angle or 50×50 post along the back to connect the L frames creates a corner post option.
The 50x50 post is standardly supplied unless you request an angle.
Material
The 50x50 post is a hollow aluminium extrusion.
The angle is a solid aluminium extrusion.
Maximum Length
The angle used as the corner post alternative is 6000mm.
Cost

Deductions
Reveal Mount - Between the reveal and the frame is 2mm per side.
Face Mount - Add the thickness of the L frame (35mm) and any other measurements required.
Factory Drawing
The factory provides a front, top and side view drawing of the corner shutter. Corner post alternatives are visible top view drawing, indicated in yellow.
14. Alternative Bay Post Option
A Bay Window is the combination of three or more windows that angle out beyond the exterior wall forming a bay. Weatherwell Standard does not have a Bay Post to suit this opening style; however, the Factory and TWO have devised an alternative solution.
Butting up L frames together and adding an angle along the back of the frames to connect the frames creates a bay-post-like installation.
Material
The angle is solid aluminium.
Cost
Included in the SQM price.
Deductions
Reveal Mount: between the reveal and the frame is 2mm per side.
Face Mount: add the thickness of the L frame (35mm) and any other measurements required.
Factory Drawing
The factory provides a front, top and side view drawing of the shutter. Bay post alternatives are visible in the front view and top view drawing.
15. Installation Panel Configurations
Panel configurations are the different ways a shutter can be assembled. Our factory relies on panel configuration codes in order to manufacture the shutters according to your order.
The following lists the codes and their descriptions per installation type.
Codes for Hinged (with or without a frame)
L = Left-Hinged Panel
R = Right-Hinged Panel
T = T-post
C = Corner (Alternative Corner Post)
B = Bay (Alternative Bay Post)
D = D-mould
Codes for Panel Only
F = Fixed (Tilt rod is standardly supplied on the left side of the panel)
L = Panel only with tilt rod on the left side of the panel
R = Panel only with tilt rod on the right side of the panel
Codes for Fixed
F = Fixed Panel
H = H-section
Codes for Sliding
F = Front
M = Middle
B = Back
Codes for Multi-fold
L = Fold Left
R = Fold Right
Working out the configuration
Left to Right - Codes are read by the factory from the left-hand side of the opening to the right-hand side. For example, a Hinged in Frame installation with two panels would have a configuration code of L-R-2. The L stands for Left-Hinged Panel, the R stands for Right-Hinged Panel and the 2 indicates 2 panels. If you wanted a D mould on the Right-hinged panel, then the configuration would be L-DR-2. Whereby the D next to the R indicates the D-mould on the Right Panel.
Hypen - A Hyphen within the configuration indicates the panels need to operate independently from each other. This is not required if the panels are together or if there is a H section or T Post between the panels.
16. Hinged No Frame
Hinged No Frame means the panel is fixed to the opening with hinges.
Material
Hinges – Stainless steel
Cost
Included in the SQM price.
Non-Mortise Hinge
Non-Mortise Hinges are the most commonly used for shutters; they are surface-mounted to the panel/opening. These hinges consist of 2 metal plates that are joined together with a simple pin.
The hinges are standardly positioned on the sides of the panels, which allows the panels to open and close.

Bi-Fold Hinge
Bi-folding hinges are just like non-mortise hinges but slightly smaller as they are between 2 panels that are joined together. The hinge knuckle is on the back of the two panels so that the panels can stack against one another.
Pivot Hinge
A pivot hinge allows a panel to pivot from a single point at the top and bottom of the shutter.
Magnets and Striker Plates
The factory will standardly supply a round striker plate attached to the back corner, opposite side to the hinge of each panel, and a magnet with housing. The magnet housing is installed to the opening so that when the shutters are closed, the striker plate catches onto the magnet to keep them secured shut.
How to Measure
Note: Be sure to always measure from the front of the most protruding object in the reveal.
Reveal Mount

Height The panel height deductions are based on the top track and bottom track selections, which are listed below. The headboard is included in the height entered into the system (measured to the top of the headboard).
Top Track + Wheel Carrier 52mm is deducted from the panel height for the top track and wheel carrier.
Surface Mounted Bottom Track 20mm is deducted from the panel height to allow clearance for the surface-mounted bottom track and the components between the track and panel.
Recessed Bottom Track 28mm is deducted from the panel height to allow clearance for the surface-mounted bottom track and the components between the track and panel.
Bottom Pivot Point 20mm is deducted from the panel height to allow for the multi-fold pivot point.
Panel Overlap
The factory standardly adds extra width to each panel for a Sliding configuration. This is so there is less light bleed between the panels.
Panels: Width + the overlap, which is the stile minus 10mm per overlap, then divided by the number of overlaps. If there are sub widths, this needs to be calculated accordingly.
The factory provides a front, side and top view drawing of the shutters. Sliding installation is identified in the front and top view drawings.
The front view drawing shows the deductions and the panels, whereas the top view drawing shows the layout of the panels.
22. Tier-on-tier
Tier-on-tier shutters are designed to allow you to open the top section of the shutter panels and the bottom section of the shutter panels independently from one another.
You can allocate the split height between the top and bottom sections, measured from the bottom up.
Cost
Included in the SQM price
Tier-on-tier – Split only
The panels will be supplied one above the other without anything in between. There will be a 2mm gap between the panels.
Tier-on-tier – Horizontal T-post
The panels will be supplied one above the other with a Horizontal T-post between the two.
23. Shapes
Shaped Shutters are designed to fit sloped openings.
The blades in the sloped section are fixed closed, whereas the blades beneath the slope are operable. The factory fixes the blades closed as the standard end caps will not fit the blades once they are cut to the angle required.
To ensure correct manufacture, mandatory drawings will be provided by the factory for approval.
